Why You Should Be Using An Autoresponder Service

As a small business owner or entrepreneur, you know that as much as you’d like to, you just don’t have the time to connect with every person that lands on your website personally, unless you use some tools.

No matter what industry your business is in,  you’ll need a way to connect with, and then collect the names and email addresses of your regular visitors and then nurture them into leads.

Collecting leads or opt-in subscribers is a great way to build your mailing list. It provides you with a base of people who are interested in what you have to say and as well as being leads, they’re also more likely to communicate with you and that means you get to grow stronger and deeper relationships – what’s not to love about that?

The biggest issue with sending out an email is in knowing that it will actually get delivered to your subscribers.

If you try and do this through your webmail on your site you can run into all kinds of issues. Including going over your bandwidth or using up too much CPU usage each month, not to mention if your website gets hacked or is inoperable for some reason, you can’t notify anyone as your email is tied into it.

You can also fall into the trap of not being legally compliant when either building your list or sending out your emails. You must have heard about GDPR and the impact it had on businesses, well a lot of the rules and guidelines in the GDPR update aren't new but will require you to have a system that can cope with what you need to do to be compliant.

If you are not sure what an autoresponder is the best way to describe it is as an automatic emailing service. They are sometimes referred to as Mail bots or Email Responders.

An autoresponder service is your best solution when it comes to sending out your emails on a regular basis.

What to look for when choosing an autoresponder service? Start with ease of use. All the deliverability in the world won’t matter if you have to jump through flaming hoops to log in.

Then look for one that has a good delivery rate.

After that, you can add to your autoresponder service wishlist some easy to customise templates to brand your own and so that they look consistent and professional. Remember the ease of use aspect here as well.

Ensure your autoresponder service is GDPR compliant, you may think they all are but I can tell you having researched it that not all of them are.

The biggest benefit of using an autoresponder service is that you can schedule emails for weeks or even months in advance. You also have the ability to go in and send out a Blog Broadcast email whenever you choose or hook it up so every time you post a blog your subscribers get an email.

There are many different ways to use your autoresponder service including:

  • Building a mailing list
  • For affiliate marketing
  • Customer support
  • Running a newsletter
  • Delivering courses and membership content

And all of that must be valuable to your subscribers or they will unsubscribe.

One of the biggest deterrents for people in using an autoresponder service is the cost.

When transitioning my clients from offline to online, one of the things they gripe about is the monthly fees that these services require, as with all services you get what you pay for. Many of the most popular services such as Aweber,  GetResponse, and Activecampaign offer free or low-cost trials for the first month. This allows you to sign up and get a feel for how the system works.

If you make use of your service immediately you should have no trouble in generating enough income to pay for your autoresponder for the following month.

By incorporating email marketing into your business you will easily cover your costs, even as the size of your list grows. Don’t forget this expense will also qualify as a tax deduction for your business each year too.

Using an autoresponder is an easy way to stay connected with your subscribers and nurture them into customers. Some of the super-smart marketing systems out their combine autoresponders and CRM, so you can tailor your offers to the needs of your subscribers, wish them a happy birthday and email them topical advice depending on the actions they take in the emails themselves.

Using an email autoresponder is a timesaving, relationship building and revenue-generating tool, and I don’t think any online business can do without one.

  • I’ve tried a couple over the years Kevin, and now use Active Campaign. For me, I like the fact I can use it to track follow up and can email straight from there. It links with my wordpress site through a plugin too.

I’m still learning but when you do use an autoresponder in your business, life does get simpler. That’s always good as a parent in business when there’s so many things to juggle!
